Pamela Gaard, b. Minneapolis,1955
Pamela began her studies at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and completed her education and credentials in public health at the University of WI. She is mostly self-taught as a visual artist. When her scientist position ended at the University of MN in 2006, she returned to painting and developed a studio practice based on portraiture, language and abstraction.
Using thin layers of acrylics and collage, on heavy weight archival paper, her work reflects her intrigue with psychology, costume and ornament. Portrait subjects are friends, clients, colleagues, artists, and other individuals. Reflecting the changing face of her city, many of her portraits depict recent immigrants to Minneapolis..
Pamela's paintings, sculptures, and photographs have exhibited in over 50 exhibitions in the US and Europe; locally at Instinct Gallery, TuckUnder, Co Exhibitions, Walker Art Center, Hennepin History Museum, Made Here on Block E (Hennepin Theatre Trust), and Traffic Zone Gallery.
